This painting portrays Platform 21 of Milan Central Station. It was from platform 21 that during 1943–45 hundreds of Jews and political prisoners were deported in livestock cars bound for Nazi concentration and death camps. Today, the Shoah Memorial stands nearby, honoring the victims. In the quiet emptiness of the station, a small plant growing between the rails suggests resilience and remembrance.
